A panic attack is a sudden surge of overwhelming anxiety and fear. Your heart pounds and you can’t breathe. Panic attacks are characterized by a fear of disaster or of losing control even when there is no real danger. A person may also have a strong physical reaction during a panic attack. This can seem like one continuous attack. But if you have continuous symptoms that don’t go away within an hour, you probably aren’t having a panic attack. You should seek medical care right away.
